Description
From Homer Laughlin China, this is the much sought after Century shape. Designed in the 1930s by Frederick Rhead, it is the shape used for the solid color dinnerware line Riviera. Century was also produced with many other designs and its ivory-colored vellum base china is beautifully glazed with a lovely soft feel. It was in production from 1931 until 1946 and along with Fiesta and Harlequin is one of HLCs most iconic lines of china. Its scalloped four edges are a hallmark of the line. For a variety of reasons, it is difficult to find Century without chipping along the edge.
These are rimmed cereal bowls (2) that measure 6 inches in the very desirable and hard to find Hacienda pattern that features a red verge line and a Mexican informed desert scene. Plate is bottom marked as shown indicating 1930s manufacture. No chips, cracks or crazing. Minor signs of use as shown. Hard to find in any condition!
